Public Favors Duke
Like most media publications, the public is clearly backing one team in Monday’s 2010 NCAA Championship Game between Duke and Butler.
This national championship takes place on Monday at 9:21PM ET from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com currently lists Duke as a 7.5-point favorite over Butler in the national title game while the over/under total is sitting at 128.5 points.
Nearly 22,000 wagers have been placed on this game with 64% of the public opting to go with the Blue Devils plus the 7.5 points. Public betting tends to go with the favorites and the fact that Butler is playing in its first national championship game in school history while Duke is seeking its fourth NCAA title.
The opening line for the game had the Blue Devils as 5.5-point favorites, but over the course of the last day, the line has jumped up another two points and wagers continue to flood in for the Blue Devils. Duke’s convincing win over West Virginia and Butler’s offensive struggles against Michigan State have many public bettors feeing this game will be a mismatch.
Some trends to consider in this game is that Duke is 5-0 against the spread in the tournament, covering in each game. The Blue Devils are also 13-6 ATS against non-conference opponents and 12-5ATS against teams that allow under an average of 64 points per-game on the season, which Butler does.
Butler is 26-14 ATS in non-conference games over the past three years and 120-86 ATS after allowing 60 points or less since 1997. The Bulldogs failed to cover in one game this tournament. Butler has not faced Duke since a Jan. 30, 2003 loss where the score was 80-60.
