Panthers end losing skid
Pittsburgh wrapped up the regular season Saturday with a 56-53 home win over Notre Dame to snap its 13-game losing streak and improve to 13-18 overall plus 3-15 in the ACC. The Panthers outscored the Fighting Irish 31-27 in the second half to secure the win. Pittsburgh shot 22-of-58 from the field, 8-of-22 from 3-point range along with 4-of-8 at the free throw line. Trey McGowens led the Panthers with 16 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting including 2-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also finished with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jared Wilson-Frame tallied 12 points, five boards and two dimes. Xavier Johnson added 10 points, six caroms and two assists.
Eagles blown out by Wolfpack
Boston College lost for a third straight time Saturday with a 73-47 home defeat versus North Carolina State to complete the regular season 14-16 overall and 5-13 in the ACC. The Eagles trailed 41-24 at halftime and were unable to recover. Boston College shot 16-of-60 from the floor, 3-of-19 from 3-point range plus 12-of-16 at the free throw line. Ky Bowman was the lone Eagles player in double figures for scoring as he ended the contest with 14 points on 4-of-15 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 4-of-5 at the free throw line. Prediction:
The Eagles already have a 66-57 home win over the Panthers this season and aside from Pitt finally ending its losing streak, I can’t think of a single reason why it should be favored here. Pittsburgh is the better defensive team, but has rarely shown the ability to turn that into wins. While the Eagles played poorly in their last two home games, that came against North Carolina and NC State. The Panthers are nowhere close to that level. Go with Boston College tonight.
