Terrapins hold off Badgers
Maryland secured its sixth straight win as it prevailed 64-60 at home over Wisconsin Monday night to improve to 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the Big Ten. The Terrapins blew a 33-15 halftime advantage, but were able to hit a couple key late shots to withstand the Badgers’ rally. Anthony Cowan Jr. led Maryland with 21 points on 4-of-14 shooting including 2-of-6 from 3-point distance plus 11-of-13 at the free throw line. Jalen Smith contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, while Eric Ayala also scored 11. Bruno Fernando added 10 points, four boards, two assists and two blocked shots. The Terrapins shot 16-of-47 from the floor including 8-of-16 from 3-point range plus 24-of-29 at the charity stripe.
Buckeyes fall flat at Iowa
Ohio State lost for a third straight time Saturday afternoon with a 72-62 defeat at Iowa. The Buckeyes (12-4, 2-3 Big Ten) were outscored 48-36 in the second half of the loss. Ohio State shot 22-of-59 from the field including 10-of-25 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-11 at the free throw line. Andre Wesson led the Buckeyes with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting including 2-of-3 from 3-point range plus 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched four assists and three rebounds. C.J. Jackson added 10 points, four boards and three dimes in 22 minutes off the bench.

Maryland is stronger offensively, while Ohio State is better on the defensive end. For me, I’m going with the underdog that is playing the better basketball currently. The Terrapins have their sights set on being in the thick of the Big Ten title race and key road wins are how you get there. Look for a slow-paced game in which the Terrapins either win outright or at least stay within the small number.
