Terrapins blast Boilermakers
Maryland topped visiting 12th-ranked Purdue by a count of 70-56 Tuesday night to improve to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in Big Ten Conference play. The Terrapins dominated the second half by outscoring the Boilermakers 40-18 after trailing by eight at halftime. Maryland shot 26-of-52 from the floor, 8-of-27 on 3-point tries and 10-of-15 at the free throw line. Jalen Smith led the Terrapins with 16 points on 7-of-15 from the floor plus 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He also contributed four rebounds and two blocked shots. Eric Ayala tallied 15 points plus five boards and two blocks. Bruno Fernando had 12 points, 12 caroms and four assists. Anthony Cowan Jr. registered 12 points, six assists and four rebounds. Wolverines upset by Nittany Lions
Michigan suffered a 75-69 loss at Penn State Tuesday night in a game where head coach John Beilein was ejected at halftime. The Wolverines (22-3, 11-3) trailed by a count of 40-27 at halftime and were unable to rally all the way back. Charles Matthews led U-M with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting including 3-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 5-of-8 at the free throw line. He also recorded six rebounds and two steals. Jordan Poole added 17 points, four boards and four steals. Michigan shot 25-of-49 from the field, 7-of-20 from 3-point range and 12-of-16 at the charity stripe.
Maryland
The Terrapins are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games. Maryland is 32-15-4 ATS in its last 51 Saturday games.
Michigan
The Wolverines are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games. Michigan is 1-4 ATS in its last five Saturday games.
Prediction:
These teams are coming off opposite performances, but I think the rolls could be reversed here. Maryland might be in for a letdown as it goes into a hostile environment, while the Wolverines want to bounce back from a dismal performance. Michigan has the nation’s second-ranked defense and my thought is that it was successfully slow down the Terrapins enough to pull away as the game progresses. Look for a strong game by the hosts to cover this spread.
