HOUSTON, TX (TheSpread) – The 2011 Final Four tips off on Saturday featuring a group of surprising finalists. Here is a look at why each team is playing in the national semifinals.

Saturday’s matchups feature VCU taking on Butler at 6:09PM ET and Kentucky taking on Connecticut at 8:49PM ET.

According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog.com Kentucky and Butler come into their games as the respective favorites with odds of -2.5 points against Connecticut and VCU.

In the opener, Butler comes in as a No. 8 seed while VCU is a No. 11 seed. As a team, Butler averages 72.8 points per game and they shoot 44.6 percent from the field. VCU is posting 71.5 points per game while shooting 43.5 percent. Where the Rams struggle is in rebounds, where they average just 32 per game, which ranks 301st in the country.

Individually, the Bulldogs are led by Matt Howard, who averages 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Shelvin Mack throws in 15.9 points and 3.6 assists per game. VCU has been led by Jamie Skeen, who is posting 15.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Skeen also shoots 51.6 percent from the field. The Rams also get 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds from Bradford Burgess.

In terms of the second semifinal, Kentucky averages 76.4 points and 38 rebounds per game. Both of those stats rank in the top 35 of all the teams in the nation. Connecticut scores 73.4 points per game and 39.6 rebounds per game. The Huskies rebounding average is the 11th most of all teams in Division I.

For individuals, Kentucky has been led by freshman Brandon Knight, who averages 17.3 points and 4.2 assists per game. Terrence Jones adds 15.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. The Huskies have been led by one of the best players in all basketball, Kemba Walker, who posts 23.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
