LOS ANGELES, CA (TheSpread) – The 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend officially kicks off Friday night with the playing of the Rookie Challenge Game featuring some of the best rookies and second-year players in the NBA.

This year’s rookie roster consists of Eric Bledsoe (LAC), DeMarcus Cousins (SAC), Derrick Favors (NJ), Landry Fields (NY), Blake Griffin (LAC), Wesley Johnson (MIN), Greg Monroe (DET), Gary Neal (SA), and John Wall (WAS).

The sophomore roster includes DeJuan Blair (SA), DeMar DeRozan (TOR), Stephen Curry (GS), Taj Gibson (CHI), James Harden (OKC), Jrue Holiday (PHI), Serge Ibaka (OKC), Brandon Jennings (MIL), and Wesley Matthews (POR).

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made the Sophomores the favorites to win with a point spread of -6.5 against the Rookies. The over/under for the game has been set at 253 points.

Since converting to a rookies vs. sophomores format, the rookies have won just three times in 11 games. However, the rookies did win last season, which was this current sophomore squad. They defeated the 2010 sophomores 140-128.

Over the history of the game, the total points have went over 253 points just three times in the 11 games played. Last year’s game was the second most points scored. The most was 269, which was scored in 2007.
