Newman wins at Martinsville
RIDGEWAY, VA (TheSpread) – It was a grind for all drivers involved, but Ryan Newman managed to grind out a win in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 on Sunday.
It looked like it was going to be a battle between Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon to the finish, but a late caution led to a wreck on a re-start that opened the door for Newman to get the win. Johnson ultimately finished 12th while Gordon landed 14th.
According to oddsmakers, Newman had 25/1 odds to win Sunday’s race, meaning a $100 wager on him will pay out an additional $2,500.
In the end, Newman held off A.J. Allmendinger for the win while Dale Earnhardt Jr. placed third after showing signs to possibly win. Earnhardt moved to second in the point standings with his performance, six points out of first place.
