After covering in games one and two of the series, are the Nationals a good bet to cover on the runline again tonight when they visit the Padres at 10:10PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are -230 money line and -1.5 (-140) runline favorites to beat the Padres (+190) tonight in San Diego. With Max Scherzer set to face Colin Rea in the pitching matchup, the over/under is also sitting at 7 runs for tonight’s game.

WASHINGTON: The Nationals continue to dominant with Scherzer on the hill, winning four of his last five starts and going 9-3 in his last 12 outings on the road. They’re also 13-3 in Scherzer’s last 16 starts when their opponent allows five runs or more in its previous game, as the Padres did last night when they fell 7-5 to the Nats.
SAN DIEGO: The Padres, meanwhile, have been dreadful with Rea on the hill. They’re 1-4 in his last five starts, 1-4 in his last five home starts, and are 1-4 in his last five home starts versus an opponent that owns a winning record. The Padres are also just 1-5 in their last six games versus National League East opponents.

OUR PREDICTION: Even though there’s not much value in their odds, the play that makes the most sense tonight for bettors is the Nationals on the runline. They’re a perfect 5-0 in their last five games in San Diego and have won seven of their last eight games. The under should be a decent bet, but if the Nationals get to Rea then they could go over by themselves. Thus, lay the -1.5 and look for Washington to cruise with Scherzer on the hill.
