Olson highlights A’s offense
Oakland lost by a count of 4-3 in 11 innings Saturday at New York to drop to 78-57 overall and 35-31 on the road. Matt Olson led the Athletics offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two walks and two RBIs. Matt Chapman ended the contest 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Robbie Grossman was 1-for-4 with two walks and a run. Lou Trivino took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with one strikeout over two innings of work. Sean Manaea will make his season debut today on the mound for Oakland after recovering from an arm injury.
LeMahieu socks walk-off HR
D.J. LeMahieu hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday to propel host New York to a 4-3 victory over Oakland. It was the only hit for LeMahieu in five at-bats. Gary Sanchez paced the Yankees offensively as he finished 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs. Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo homer plus a walk. Cory Gearrin recorded the win in relief as he allowed one hit with no strikeouts or walks over two innings. J.A. Happ gets the start today as he enters with an 11-8 record, 5.57 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 112 strikeouts over 134 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are 4-1 in their last five games versus the AL East. Oakland is 10-4 in the last 14 Manaea starts.
New York
The Yankees are 16-7 in the last 23 Happ starts. New York is 45-14 in its last 59 home games.
Prediction:
It is great to see Manaea back in action after he turned a corner in 2018 before an injury cut his season short. It’s difficult to bet on him here on the road at a power-packed offense, but he should get run support as Happ has struggled with giving up the long ball all season. Manaea will be on a pitch count, but I like his chances to leave with a lead and put the ball in the hands of what has been a pretty solid bullpen. I’m taking a shot with Oakland in the getaway game.
