Boston’s Buccholz covets win in Toronto

The top two teams in the American League East are separated by a single game. Will we see an absolute deadlock by the end of the day?

Talented righty Aaron Sanchez tries to help Toronto (78-63) pull even with Boston this afternoon. Online sports book Bovada.lv gives the Blue Jays odds of -160 to seize the rubber match at Rogers Centre. Conversely, John Farrell’s club represents a +140 underdog. The over/under run figure sits at nine.

John Gibbons’ group knocked off the first-place Red Sox (79-62) in Saturday’s matinee, 3-2, thanks largely to some terrific mound work from J.A. Happ. The skipper hopes Sanchez, who ranks second in the AL in ERA, follows suit shortly. He’s 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in two meetings with Boston in 2016.

On the other side, Clay Buchholz simply wants to keep motoring forward in the Great White North. The veteran owns an 11-3 record with a 2.18 ERA in 16 career appearances in Canada. Most recently, he held the Padres to one run across six-plus innings.

Despite their setback about 16 hours ago, the Red Sox are still producing the better results of late. Farrell’s squad is 18-10 since Aug. 12, while Toronto’s a mere 14-14 in the past 24 contests. We’ll be shocked if the finale fails to produce another one-run affair. Bank on a low-scoring one at that.
