San Diego will send Travis Wood (3-4, 5.81 ERA) to the mound and Miami will go with Adam Conley (6-5, 4.93). Wood has been good in his last two starts, both at home. He allowed two earned runs over 12 innings in the two games as the Padres have won both. He comes in with a 1.59 WHIP, while his road ERA is 7.66 in 24 2/3 innings. Conley has been in good form his last seven starts, save for one clinker. He is coming off one of his best starts of the season, giving up one earned run and striking out 11 over seven innings in a 6-4 win at the Mets. He has a 1.41 WHIP and his home ERA is 7.52 in 32 1/3 innings.
The Padres are 57-70 and 24-40 on the road, while the Marlins come in at 63-63 and 32-29 at home. The Marlins have won two of three in the season series and the total is 2-0-1. .
On Thursday, San Diego won its second game in three days at St. Louis as it prevailed 4-3. Manuel Margot was 3-for-4 with a double. two runs and a walk to lead the way. Carlos Asuaje went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Kirby Yates got the win in relief. The Marlins recorded their third win in four days at the Phillies Thursday, overcoming an 8-3 deficit to win 9-8. Giancarlo Stanton was 2-for-5 with his 47th home run and two runs scored to lead the way. AJ Ellis and JT Realmuto also homered. Christian Yelich was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs, an RBI and a walk. Marcel Ozuna was 3-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Jarlin Garcia notched the win in relief.
The Marlins have several batters in the lineup who mash lefties, specifically Stanton and Ozuna. Don’t look for Wood to have a stellar outing. Conley is pitching with a lot of confidence these days and now he gets to go against the weakest lineup in baseball.
