Diamondbacks Season Odds
(The Spread) – The Arizona Diamondbacks were busy this offseason but questions remain about whether or not they can compete in the NL West.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Diamondbacks +10000 to win the 2011 World Series and +1500 to win the NL West. They also have an over/under total of 72.5 games.
Offseason Additions: The D-Backs traded Mark Reynolds for bullpen arms David Hernandez and Kam Mickolio on the first day of the winter meetings after opting not to pick up Adam LaRoche’s option. They also agreed to terms with J.J. Putz, Xaiver Nady, Melvin Mora and Geoff Blum. Zach Duke, Armando Galarraga and Juan Miranda were acquired via trades.
Offseason Losses: Reynolds, who has struck out at least 200 times in each of the last three seasons, was traded and as previously mentioned, LaRoche became a free agent when the D-Backs didn’t pick up his option.
Season Outlook: With the moves he made this offseason, GM Kevin Towers made it clear that the Diamondbacks will no longer be a team that strikes out at the plate and can’t throw strikes on the mound. The loss of Reynolds will be felt but the offense should be fine if Justin Upton can ever cash in on his immense talent and Chris Young doesn’t revert back to 2009 form. But this offense won’t keep opposing pitchers up at night. This is a club that will have to get really hot at some point during the year and have a fair amount of luck in order to win the NL West. As the Giants proved last year, it’s totally possible but Arizona doesn’t have the pitching that San Fran does either. There’s a good chance that this team won’t finish in last place again this season, but it’s going to take some really hot play for them to where the division crown by the end of the year.
