Oakland gets shutout win

Oakland picked up a 7-0 win on Friday to open this series and win their fifth out of seven games. The Athletics are 66-50 overall, 29-27 on the road and 61-54 with the under. Oakland has Tanner Roark getting the start tonight. He is 1-0 on the season with a 1.80 ERA.

Mike Fiers earned his 11th win of the season on Friday night thanks to seven scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. At the plate, the Athletics played their seven runs on nine hits thanks to three home runs. Matt Chapman, Chad Pinder and Stephen Piscotty each went long in the victory.

White Sox silenced

Chicago returned home from a week on the road and was unable to pick up a win in the 7-0 loss to Oakland. Chicago is 51-63 on the season, 27-29 at home and 58-52 with the under. Reynaldo Lopez gets the start for the White Sox tonight. He is 6-9 on the season with a 5.41 ERA.

Chicago was held to just four hits in Friday’s loss, not picking up a single extra-base hit on the night. Tim Anderson was the lone player to pick up multiple hits for the White Sox. On the mound, Ross Detwiler took the loss. He didn’t pitch too poorly, allowing just two runs over 5.1 innings while walking four. He is now 1-3 on the year.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The Athletics are 6-1 in their last seven road games against a team with a losing home record and 21-6 in their last 27 against a team with a losing record.

Chicago

The White Sox are 6-20 in their last 26 games against a right-handed starter and 8-20 in their last 28 games on grass.

Prediction:

Roark looked alright in his first start with Oakland last week, throwing five innings and giving up just one run against the Cardinals. Lopez has some bad numbers, but he has been more competitive over the last month. He had a 3.41 ERA over July. Despite that, Oakland still has something to play for. The Athletics have the better balance of hitting and pitching that Chicago just can’t offer. The Sox are without one of their top bats and that isn’t going to help them in this series.

MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -160
