The UFC heavyweight championship is up for grabs tonight in the main event of UFC 203. Who will win when Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem collide?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Miocic is the favorite to defend his title in the win, as he is getting odds of -135 to win. Overeem is listed with a money line of +105 to prevail. These two meet in the main event of UFC 203, which takes place from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The main card airs live on PPV at 10PM ET.
Miocic (15-2) is making his first title defense in his current hometown. The Croatian fighter won the UFC title after knocking out Fabricio Werdum in the first round of their fight last May. He has won three straight fights, all by KO, including his last two by first-round knockout. Overeem (41-14) is one of the most decorated heavyweights in MMA history, a former K-1 and Strikeforce champion, but he is looking to win his first UFC title. Overeem has won four straight, three by KO. Both men are very powerful strikers. Overeem is a kickboxer while Miocic has more of a boxing and sambo style.
This fight shouldn’t go the distance. It’s hard to imagine over 25 minutes that neither of these men will land a big strike. Overeem hasn’t been a great starter. He is a little more composed in the early going, looking to pick apart his opponent. Miocic is a little more aggressive. He has proven that if his hands get you, you are going down. The only concern with the champion is his emotions. Will fighting in his hometown lead him to be too aggressive? I think he will manage to fight his fight and not let that get to him. Look for him to get to Overeem early and finish the fight quickly. Overeem will get overwhelmed in the first by Miocic and not be able to survive an early flurry.
