The latest odds according to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv have Pettis as the favorite to retain his championship tonight, as he has been given odds of -280 to prevail, while Melendez has been given odds of +220 to win.
This fight is going to come down to striking and who has the more powerful hands and feet. Melendez can probably out-box Pettis, but he can’t out kick him, and that is where the difference will be. Pettis has some brutal body kicks that Melendez can’t take many of. It was those kicks that aided Pettis in winning the championship over Ben Henderson last year. Look for Pettis to work those kicks early and eventually tire Melendez, which will lead to a TKO finish in the third round.
