The NTT IndyCar Series returns from the Indianapolis area to the rolling Wisconsin countryside on Sunday, June 21, 2026, for the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. Alex Palou starts from the pole and arrives as the runaway championship leader, so it is no surprise he tops the board as the betting favorite at -200.

Road America has become his personal playground, and our headline pick leans his way. Still, the smartest money this weekend may sit a few rows back, where a front-row qualifier offers far more reward. The green flag waves at 2 p.m. ET on FOX, and below we break down the picks for race day.

Pre-Race Report

Qualifying ran Saturday afternoon, and the result followed a familiar script. Palou claimed the pole with a fast lap of 1:43.6615, his fifth consecutive pole position. His Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was nearly three tenths clear of the field. David Malukas qualified second and will line up alongside him on the front row.

The Meyer Shank Racing pair of Marcus Armstrong and Felix Rosenqvist locked out the second row in third and fourth. Marcus Ericsson and Scott McLaughlin completed the top six. Behind them came Santino Ferrucci, Nolan Siegel, Caio Collet, and Pato O'Ward, who could only manage tenth despite topping the final practice session.

There is meaningful news further back, however. Two of Palou's closest championship rivals stumbled in qualifying. Kyle Kirkwood, second in the standings, starts 18th, while two-time 2026 winner Josef Newgarden lines up 16th. Alexander Rossi will start at the rear after a grid penalty for an unapproved engine change. Those misfires open the door for the front-runners to stretch their advantage.

Top Pick to Win — Alex Palou

The Pick: Alex Palou to win (-200)

It is hard to bet against Palou at Road America. He owns three wins at this 4.014-mile circuit, the most of any active driver, including last year's race. He has also won four of the season's opening nine events and leads the championship comfortably. Starting from the pole on a track where clean air matters, the four-time series champion has every tool he needs.

The price is the obvious drawback. A -200 line carries an implied probability near 67 percent, so there is little margin for error. Road races also hinge on fuel strategy, and Palou won here in 2025 by stretching his tank rather than by raw pace. A caution at the wrong moment can flip the running order. Backing him means trusting Ganassi to execute cleanly, not just trusting the fastest car.

Even so, the combination of pole position, track mastery, and championship form is tough to ignore. The case against is the modest payout. The case for is a driver who has turned this venue into a routine. For a single-race outright, that profile still rates as the most reliable play on the board.

Value Play — Marcus Armstrong

The Pick: Marcus Armstrong to win (+1400)

If you want a longer price with a real path to the front, Armstrong fits. He qualified third and shares the second row with Meyer Shank teammate Rosenqvist, so his car clearly has pace this weekend. At +1400 he offers far more reward than McLaughlin at +1200, and he starts ahead of him. From row two, a strong launch and a smart first stint could put him in contention for the lead.

The counterpoint is experience. Armstrong has yet to win in 2026, and converting a front-row start into a first victory of the year is a tall order against Palou and the Penske and Ganassi cars. Meyer Shank is improving but is not yet a regular winner. The bet is a calculated swing on form and grid position, not a safe play. At this price, though, he does not need to be the favorite to deliver value.

Race Day Outlook — Picks and Final Thoughts

The feed also lists a winning-manufacturer market, and the grid points one direction. The Pick: Honda as winning manufacturer (-225) reflects a front of the field stacked with Honda runners. Palou, Malukas, Armstrong, Rosenqvist, and Ericsson all run Honda power and fill five of the top six grid spots. Chevrolet sits at +170 and would need McLaughlin or O'Ward to charge forward. The Honda price is short, but the qualifying picture supports it.

For a smaller swing on the outright board, David Malukas at +500 is the logical alternative to Palou. He starts second and has been quick all weekend, so a fuel-strategy gamble or an early Palou problem hands him a clear shot. The risk is that he has not yet broken through for a win this season, and the front row has often belonged to the man beside him.

Strategy will decide this one. Road America rewards fuel saving and well-timed pit sequences, and a single caution can swing a two or three-stop calculation. Watch the undercut on the opening stops and how the leaders manage traffic on restarts. To recap, our picks are Alex Palou to win (-200), Marcus Armstrong to win (+1400), Honda as winning manufacturer (-225), and David Malukas (+500) as a longer-priced alternative.
