Hamlin wins AAA 400 pole
DOVER, DE (TheSpread) – Denny Hamlin won the pole for Sunday’s AAA 400 on Saturday, and he will now start up front for this NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Jimmie Johnson is still the favorite to win, as he has 3/1 odds. Kyle Busch has 5/1 odds to win while Hamlin now has 7/1 odds.
Johnson is leading the point standings by 1. He has three wins and 14 top 5’s on the year. Johnson has seven wins at Dover in his career. His average finish at that track is 8.9 and his driver rating is a series-best 120.6. Johnson qualified 11th for this race
Busch is 13th overall in the standings and not part of the Chase. Busch has one win and seven top 5’s this year. Busch has never won this event, but his driver rating at Dover is 101.6, which ranks fifth amongst current drivers. Busch will start fifth on Sunday.
Hamlin sits third in the point standings, 7 points out of first. He has a series-best five wins on the year to go along with 12 top 5’s and 14 top 10’s. Hamlin hasn’t had much luck at Dover. He is winless at this track with an average finish of 20.5 over 13 races. His driver rating here is just 78.6.
