Gordon on the Talladega Pole
TALLADEGA, AL (TheSpread) – Jeff Gordon found himself the fastest in qualifying for the Aaron’s 499 on Saturday, so he will start up front for Sunday’s race.
According to oddsmakers, Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are still the favorites to win this race, as each has odds of +900 to win. Gordon now has +1200 odds to win on Sunday.
Dale Jr. is currently second in the point standings, just five points out of first. He has four top 5’s and seven top 10’s through nine races. Still, Earnhardt Jr. hasn’t won a race since the 2008 season. Despite that, Dale Jr. owns five wins at Talladega and has an average finish of 15.0 at this track. His driver rating there is 90.2, which is the second best of any driver in the series. Earnhardt Jr. will start 18th on Sunday
Harvick is seventh in the point standings. He has two top 5’s and five top 10’s on the year. Harvick has one win at Talladega with an average finish of 15.1. His driver rating at the speedway is just 78.0. Harvick qualified 20th overall.
Of the drivers competing, Jeff Burton actually has the top driver rating at Tallaedga, as his rating there is 91.3. Despite that, Burton has never won on this track. His odds to win this Sunday have been set at +2500 after he qualified 29th.
