NCAA 68 Team Concerns

Indianapolis, IN – The NCAA has approved a 68-team format for the men’s basketball tournament, beginning next March. Now it has to figure out the format for those early round games.

The Division I men’s basketball committee has been discussing the four opening-round games that will take place before the round of 64. Committee members say they are sensitive to concerns that the same, smaller leagues could be penciled in for those so-called play-in games year after year.
There’s talk of a provision that would prevent a conference from playing in the opening round too many times and the committee has even discussed putting at-large entries in those games. The committee meets again in late June.
