2010 NASCAR Odds – Showtime Southern 500 – McMurray Wins The Pole

McMurray leads the way

The 2010 Daytona 500 winner, Jamie McMurray won the pole for Saturday’s 2010 Showtime Southern 500 and now the updated odds are out for which driver will win the race.

McMurray edged out Jeff Gordon for the pole, and now, Gordon is the favorite to win Saturday’s race.

Gordon has 3/1 odds to win the race according to odds makers at the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. Other short odds to win are Denny Hamlin (5/1) and Jimmie Johnson (6/1).

Gordon is sixth in the current standings, 162 points out of first place. Gordon finished second last week to land in the top 10 for the first time in three races. Gordon won this even in 2007 and 1996. For his career, Gordon has seven wins at
Darlington with an average finish of 11.3 and a driver rating of 114.4, which ranks second in the series. Gordon will start second in Saturday’s race.

Hamlin is seventh in the standings, 199 points outside of first. He has two wins on the year but just three top 10’s. In his career at
Darlington, Hamlin has one top five and three top 10’s. His average finish is eight and his driver rating is 102.7, which ranks fourth in the series. Hamlin will start eighth in Saturday’s race.

Johnson is currently 10 points behind Kevin Harvick for the lead in the Sprint Cup standings. Johnson has finished outside the top five in his last two races but he still has three wins on the year. Johnson won this event in 2004 and he has two career wins at
Darlington. His average finish at the rack is 6.9 while his driver rating is 112.1, which ranks third in the series. Johnson qualified 22^nd for Saturday’s race.
