These two teams will battle it out in the Midwest Region with their game taking place at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The Volunteers are the No. 6 seed and the Bobcats are the No. 14 seed.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made Tennessee 8.5-point favorites over Ohio on Saturday afternoon. The over/under has been set at 141.
Tennesse is seeking its sixth Sweet Sixteen in school history. The Vols have made it to the round of 16 in two of the last three tournaments. The Volunteers defeated No. 11 San Diego State to reach the second round. Tennessee held the Aztecs to 38.5 percent shooting from the floor and 16.7 percent from 3-point land. Tennessee hit 8 3-pointers in the win and shot 47 percent from beyond the arc. J.P. Prince and Melvin Goins each scored 15 points for the Volts while Bobby Maze and Wayne Chism each added 11 points.
Ohio has not played in the Sweet Sixteen since 1964. The Bobcats have reached the third round of the tournament two times in school history. The Bobcats defeated No. 3 Georgetown 97-83 in the opening round. The Bobcats shot 58 percent from the field and were 13-for-23 from 3-point land. Armon Bassett had 32 points to lead Ohio while freshman D.J. Cooper had 23 points with eight assists and three steals. DeVaughn Washington added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Ohio had an ideal matchup with a slower Georgetown team whereas the Volunteers should be able to matchup well with the Bobcats athletically. Still, this game should be a track meet with a lot of points. We canβt imagine Ohio shooting as well as it did against the Hoyas, but we feel they will keep it close and at least cover the spread.
Our NCAA Tournament Free Pick for this matchup is: OHIO +8.5 and OVER 141
