Long gone is the label of “Cinderella” for the Gonzaga basketball program and in 2010, the Bulldogs are eying a Final Four appearance.
Gonzaga has made 11-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet Sixteen in four of those year. This season, the Bulldogs are 26-6 overall and 12-2 in the West Coast Conference. Gonzaga is currently ranked 18th in the country, but lost in the WCC Tournament Championship to St. Mary’s, 81-62.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have given Gonzaga 50/1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament.
Despite playing in a lesser conference, the Bulldogs still hold wins over programs like
Gonzaga is averaging 77.6 points per-game on offense while holding opponents to an average of 67 points. While leading the WCC in field goal percentage (.494) and defensive field goal percentage (.405), Gonzaga is dead last in free throw percentage (.663). Gonzaga has been strong on the glass with a rebounding edge of 4.9 per-game. The Bulldogs average 27 defensive boards per-game, which is also tops in the WCC.
Leading Gonzaga this season has been guard Matt Bouldin, who averages 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per-game. Bouldin is an 86 percent free throw shooter as well. Elias Harris has averaged 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per-game for Gonzaga while Steve Gray is posting 13.7 points and 2.8 assists per-contest.
