The Big 12 Tournament will take place from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri and begins play on Wednesday. The bottom eight teams in the standings will play on Wednesday while the top four teams have a bye into the quarterfinals, which begin on Thursday.
Six-time tournament champion, and the No. 1 team in the nation for most of the 2009-10 season, Kansas, is heavily favored to win the tournament.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have given Kansas 1/3 odds to win the tournament. Other short odds to win are Kansas State (7/2), Baylor (5/1), and Texas (13/2).
Kansas has won six Big 12 Tournaments since the event began in 1997. The last win came in 2008, the same year the Jayhawks won the national championship. Kansas is ranked No.2 in the country as of now, with a 29-2 record overall and a 15-1 mark in the Big 12. The Jayhawks have lost to Tennessee and Oklahoma State. Kansas has won 15 of its last 16 games and holds five wins over ranked opponents.
Kansas State has never won or reached the finals of the Big 12 Tournament. The Wildcats are 24-6 overall this year to earn a No. 5 ranking and their 11-5 conference record has them with the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Wildcats have five wins over ranked opponents, but lost their last two games to end the year, falling to Kansas and Iowa State.
Baylor has never won the conference tournament but did reach the finals last year. The Bears are currently ranked No. 21 with a 24-6 record while finishing 11-5 in the Big 12 to earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Bears have two wins over ranked opponents and have won four straight and seven of their last eight games.
Texas has never won the conference tournament but has five appearances in the championship game. The Longhorns are 23-8 overall and 9-7 on the Big 12, earning the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Texas won its first 17 games but has ended the season winning just five of their last 13 games, including five losses to ranked opponents.
