When he was being hauled off to jail on dog-fighting charges, many people believed that Michael Vick might never have an impact on the NFL again. But after making three Pro Bowls with the Falcons before he was suspended, Vick is heading back to Honolulu once again.
Assuming both players make the trip, Vick will start opposite Tom Brady, who is currently the league’s top passer. He’ll make his sixth trip to the game, provided that the Patriots aren’t playing in the Super Bowl the following week. Joining Brady at the Pro Bowl will be rookie cornerback Devin McCourty, guard Logan Mankins (despite missing a portion of the season due to a contract dispute), linebacker Jerod Mayo, safety Brandon Meriweather and nose tackle Vince Wilfork.
The Falcons will send the most players to Honolulu provided they don’t play in the Super Bowl. Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, John Abraham (who was screwed out of going to the Pro Bowl two years ago), Ovie Mughelli, Michael Turner and Eric Weeks will be the seven representatives from Atlanta.
Besides McCourty, three other rookies made rosters in the AFC and NFC. Lions’ standout defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was a no-brainer selection, as was Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey. Tennessee kick returner Marc Mariani was the other rookie who made the AFC squad.
Other noteworthy participants will be Drew Brees, Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware, Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, Adrian Wilson, Devin Hester, Maurice Jones-drew and Andre Johnson. The only teams not represented were Buffalo, Cincinnati, Seattle and Tampa Bay.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have yet to release the odds for the 2011 Pro Bowl.
