Rangers vs. Canadiens Prediction

Antti Raanta will start in place of Henrik Lundqvist tonight when the Rangers visit the Canadiens at 7:00PM ET. Will New York still win with its backup goalie?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Rangers are -150 money line favorites versus the Canadiens, who have odds of +130 to pull off the upset at home. As for the total, the number currently sits at 5.5 goals.

Raanta hasn’t started a game since March 16 but did make a relief appearance on March 19. He’s been solid in spot starts this season, posting a 2.34 goals against average and a .916 save percentage in 21 contests.

On the other side is Mike Condon, who has allowed three goals in four straight contests and owns a 2.6 goals against average to go along with a .905 save percentage in 49 games this season. He’s coming off a 32-save effort in a 4-3 win over the Ducks and is now 18-22-6 on the season.

Despite having their backup goaltender in net tonight, I still like the Rangers to win on the road. The Habs are just 16-35 in their last 51 games and have dropped five of their last seven playing on one day of rest. They’ve also struggled playing teams with winning records, going 5-17 in their last 22 games versus winning foes.
