Aho scores even-strength goal in win

Sebastian Aho scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over the Islanders. After feeding Andrei Svechnikov for what proved to be the game-winner early in the first period, Aho capped the scoring on the night late in the second frame by finishing off a 2-on-1 rush with Eric Robinson. Aho has gotten onto the scoresheet in 10 of the last 12 games, racking up four goals and 16 points over that stretch with half his production — one tally and seven helpers — coming on the power play.

Ovechkin won’t play vs. Carolina

Alex Ovechkin (fibula) won’t play in Friday’s matchup with Carolina but hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Kings or Monday’s matchup against Boston, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Ovechkin will be shelved for his 14th consecutive contest after suffering his broken fibula. Prior to his absence, the veteran winger had racked up 15 goals over 18 outings this season as he continues his pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s 894 goals. Once cleared to play, Ovechkin will retake his spot on the top line and No. 1 power-play unit.
