Thompson agrees to six-year deal with Caps

Logan Thompson agreed to terms on a six-year, $35.1 million contract with Washington on Monday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports. Thompson is undefeated in regulation over his last 11 outings, going 10-0-1 with a 1.49 GAA, a .947 save percentage and two shutouts. The 27-year-old backstop has already reached the 20-win threshold for the third consecutive campaign and could be capable of topping the 30-win mark for the first time in his four-year NHL career. All of that comes despite the fact that Thompson has been splitting the workload with Charlie Lindgren all year.

Huberdeau picks up power-play helper

Jonathan Huberdeau notched a power-play assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Jets. Huberdeau helped out on a MacKenzie Weegar tally in the second period. Consistency has started to slip for Huberdeau again, as he’s earned three goals and four assists over 11 contests in January — it’s decent production but not befitting a top-line player. The 31-year-old winger is at 19 goals, 17 helpers, 87 shots on net and a minus-4 rating over 48 outings this season.

Capitals vs. Flames Betting Prediction

As previously mentioned, Washington enters play tonight coming off a 2-1 loss at Vancouver. That said, it was the Capitals’ first loss since a 3-2 overtime defeat against the Canadians on January 10. The Canucks may have ended the Capitals’ six-game winning streak, but Washington remains in excellent form. The Caps have won seven out of their last 10 games entering play tonight and have had good success against the Flames, too. In the last 10 meetings between these two teams, the Capitals are 8-2.

Capitals vs. Flames Prediction:  WASHINGTON CAPITALS -140
