Ovechkin scores empty-net goal

Alex Ovechkin scored an empty-net goal on two shots and added two blocked shots in Thursday’s 3-0 win over the Kraken. This was his 875th career goal, moving Ovechkin to 20 tallies away from holding the all-time record. He had been held off the scoresheet in the previous two contests, but he has five goals and two assists over 11 outings in January. The winger is up to 22 goals, 34 points, 112 shots on net, 59 hits and a plus-16 rating through 32 appearances. Ovechkin’s 15:24 of ice time was his lowest in a game since his first game back from a broken fibula, but it’s possible he was just given some extra rest with the Kraken failing to put up much of a challenge.

Hughes up to 52 points on season

Quinn Hughes provided an assist and three shots on goal in Thursday’s 6-2 loss to the Oilers. Hughes helped out on a Filip Hronek tally in the second period. With four goals and three assists over his last six games, Hughes is as productive as ever while leading the Canucks’ defense. The 25-year-old blueliner is up to 52 points (12 goals, 40 helpers), 128 shots on net, 43 blocked shots, 27 PIM and a plus-11 rating through 43 contests. Matching last season’s 92-point campaign isn’t out of the question even after Hughes missed four games due to an undisclosed injury.

Capitals vs. Canucks Betting Prediction

Take Washington. I don’t know why the Capitals are this cheap, but I won’t complain. They enter play tonight having won six straight games and eight out of their last 10 contests overall. They’ve also had good success against the Canucks, having won seven out of their last 10 versus Vancouver. The Canucks have beaten the Capitals just once since March 11 of 2022. That’s a span of six games.

Capitals vs. Canucks Prediction: WASHINGTON CAPITALS -120
