Hawks’ odds drop after trading Sharp to Stars
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – The defending champion Blackhawks’ 2016 Stanley Cup odds have dropped slightly after the team traded Patrick Sharp to the Stars on Friday.
Along with Sharp, the Hawks also traded Stephen Johns to Dallas in exchange for Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt. Chicago needed to clear up cap space and with Sharp making $5.9 million annually, trading him this offseason seemed like a foregone conclusion. Sharp now joins the strong trio of Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza in Dallas.
It wasn’t much but the Blackhawks’ odds to win next year’s Stanley Cup did dip. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Hawks are now 6/1 to win the Cup after they were 11/2 before the trade. The Ducks, Kings and Lightning have the next best odds to win next year at 10/1, respectively.
As for the Stars, their odds increased rather significantly. They were 40/1 before acquiring Sharp from Chicago and are now 25/1 to win the 2016 Stanley Cup. Dallas could be a potential sleeper next season.
