2011 NFL Week 1 Updated Odds
(The Spread) – After a long, lockout-filled offseason the first week of NFL football is finally here.
Oddsmakers have released updated odds for Week 1, including the point spread for the big Saints-Packers tilt on Thursday. The two teams will open up the 2011 NFL season in Green Bay where the defending Super Bowl champion Packers are 4-point favorites over the 2009 Super Bowl-winning Saints. The over/under total for this game has been set at 47 points.
A matchup between two playoff teams from a year ago will take place in Chicago where the Bears host the Falcons at 1:00PM ET. Matt Ryan and the visiting Falcons are 2.5-point favorites versus the Bears, while the over/under total is currently set at 41 points. The under is 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two teams.
In the AFC, divisional foes the Colts and Texans will meet in Houston at 1:00PM ET on Sunday. The Peyton Manning-less Colts are 9-point underdogs against the upstart Texans, who are hoping to make the postseason for the first time in franchise history. (Or at least, the first time in Texans-history, as the Houston Oilers made the postseason plenty of times before moving to Tennessee.)
Michael Vick and the Eagles will hit the road this week to St. Louis to take on Sam Bradford and the Rams. Philadelphia is a Super Bowl favorite among many observers and is a 4.5-point favorite against St. Louis in Week 1. The Eagles are 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine games against the Rams, but the home team is 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine meetings between these two teams according to latest NFL trends.
NFC North rivals will clash in Baltimore when the Ravens host the Steelers at 1:00PM ET. Baltimore is a 2.5-point favorite over Pittsburgh, which lost to Green Bay in the Super Bowl last season. The Steelers are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games against the Ravens, while the road team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five games between these two teams.
The Sunday night matchup for Week 1 pits the Jets (-4.5) versus the Cowboys at 8:20PM ET. And just like in the past few seasons, there will be two Monday Night Football Games in Week 1. At 7:00PM ET the Dolphins are 7-point home underdogs versus the Patriots and at 10:15PM ET the Broncos are 3-point home favorites over the visiting Raiders.
