Rams vs. Vikings Prediction
Will the Minnesota Vikings cover as a small home favorite today when they host the Los Angeles Rams at 1:00 p.m. ET? Let’s dive into the matchup.
Who Oddsmakers Like: Minnesota. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Vikings are 2.5-point home favorites versus the Rams, who opened as 2-point road underdogs. As for the total, the number currently sits at 45.5 points after hitting the board at 46.
Who the Public Likes: As of Sunday morning, just under 60% of tickets are on the underdog Rams to cover the spread.
Who the Trends Like: Minnesota and the over. The Rams are winless at 0-4 against the spread in their last four games versus the Vikings while the favorite has covered in seven of the last nine meetings between these two teams. That said, the road team has cashed in four of the last five meetings overall. The over is also 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Who We Like: Minnesota. Sean McVay was one of the best hires of the offseason, if not the last several offseasons. He has turned Jared Goff into a solid quarterback capable of winning games with his arm and his protection has been outstanding. McVay has also built his offense around Todd Gurley, who has been just as effective in the passing game as he is in the running game.
That said, the Vikings might offer the perfect elixir to slow down the red-hot Rams. Los Angeles has faced two decent defenses this season: Seattle at home and Jacksonville on the road. The Seahawks held the Rams to 10 points in a 16-10 victory, while the Jaguars allowed 27 points but special teams won that game for L.A., not necessarily Goff and Co.
I expect the Vikings to shut down Gurley and force Goff to beat them with his arm. On the other side, I like Minnesota to play ball-control and keep that explosive L.A. offense off the field. If all goes to play, the Vikings, who have home field advantage, should cover the 2.5 points in a quality victory.
