Eagles having post-Super Bowl hangover
The Eagles haven’t found any consistency this year after winning the Super Bowl last season. They are just 3-4 following a 21-17 loss at home to the Panthers last week and they have dropped three of their last four. Philly is 2-5 against the spread and 4-3 with the under.
Philly has been respectable on defense, allowing 19.7 points and 373.1 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 85.7 per contest. Offensively, Philly has definitely not gotten on track this year. The Eagles are averaging just 22 points and 384 yards per game right now. Carson Wentz has thrown for 1,502 yards and 10 touchdowns with just one interception, but he has been sacked 17 times. Zach Ertz is having a nice year with 57 catches for 618 yards and two scores. Wendell Smallwood is the leading rusher in a crowded backfield with 233 yards.
Jags really struggling
The Jacksonville Jaguars are on a three-game losing streak right now following a 20-7 loss to Houston. The Jags are now 3-4 overall, 3-4 against the spread and 4-3 with the under.
The Jags have really struggled on offense this months, scoring just 28 points in three games. Jacksonville is now averaging just 16.6 points and 368.7 yards per game. The team has been without Leonard Fournette most of the year due to a hamstring injury. The Jags traded for Carlos Hyde last week, so he could see his first action with the team in London. Blake Bortles was benched last week after a poor half. He has thrown for 1,735 yards and nine touchdowns with eight interceptions. Bortles is expected to start this game. Defensively, Jacksonville is giving up just 20.9 points and 317.3 yards per game, though they haven’t been their usual selves in recent weeks either. They have forced just five turnovers on the year.
NFL Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Eagles have hit the under in seven of their last 10 games on grass and have hit the over in 26 of their last 36 against a team with a losing record.
Jacksonville
The Jags have hit the over in four straight against a losing team and in five of their last seven games following a double-digit loss at home.
Prediction:
Both teams have struggled to get consistent offense this season, especially against tough defensive teams. Jacksonville still has a defense that can get locked in and hold down a Philly offense. The Eagles will be up for the challenge of slowing down the Jacksonville run game and forcing Bortles to make plays. Unfortunately, Bortles can’t have much confidence right now. For that reason, look for the total to be low.
NFL Prediction: Eagles/Jaguars Under 43
