Packers vs. Eagles Updated Odds
The biggest matchup on the Week 1 schedule may be in Philadelphia, as the Eagles will host the Green Bay Packers at 4:15PM ET. Let’s take a look at this matchup.
Game Preview:
The Packers enter the 2010 season with Super Bowl aspirations on their mind. They have a quarterback in Aaron Rodgers that is a legit MVP candidate and who has plenty of weapons in Greg Jennings, Donald Driver and Jermichael Finley to throw to in the offense. The underrated Ryan Grant returns at running back, so as long as Green Bay’s O-line can stay healthy then this offense is going to be tough to stop. Defensively, Dom Capers did a outstanding job with this unit last year and while losing cornerback Al Harris hurts the defensive backfield depth, the Packers don’t have a ton of holes. They’ll need to find another pass rusher opposite Clay Matthews, however.
The Eagles are in major transition this season, as they’ll enter 2010 without Donovan McNabb under center. The quarterbacking responsibility has fallen on Kevin Kolb this year and while he doesn’t have a ton of experience, he’s been in Andy Reid’s offense for several years now, so he should be ready. The key is whether or not Shady McCoy can keep the offense balanced, because the passing game should be solid. Defensively, this is a deep unit – one that can rush the passer and defend the pass equally well. The Eagles are a very underrated team and if they can get a win against Green Bay in the opener, they’ll cement their status as postseason contenders.
Line Movement & Updated Odds:
When the line opened for this game back in late April, the Eagles were a 1.5-point favorite. But since then, the line has steadily moved in the Packers’ favor. The Eagles dropped to a pick’em on June 25 and were then +1 for most of July. Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com currently have the Eagles as a 3-point underdog, while the over/under total is 47.5.
