Eagles Season Win Prediction
Are the Philadelphia Eagles a sleeper playoff contender in 2017 or are they still a year away?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Eagles’ over/under for wins in 2017 has been set at 8.5. They’re also a 40/1 long shot to win the Super Bowl and have odds of 18/1 to be crowned NFC Conference Champions this upcoming season. Finally, Philly is 5/2 to win the NFC East Division.

The Eagles wanted to give young quarterback Carson Wentz more weapons, so they signed former Raven and 49er receiver Torrey Smith to a three-year, $15 million contract. The Eagles didn’t stop there, however, as they also added former Bear wideout Alshon Jeffery on a one-year flier. Chris Long, Nick Foles and Corey Graham were among Philly’s other signings.
In the draft, the Eagles selected Tennessee pass-rusher Derek Barnett with the 14th overall pick. In the second round, the Eagles took Washington cornerback Sidney Jones and then double-downed on the position with West Virginia defensive back Rasul Douglas in the third. San Diego State running back DJ Pumphrey was highly productive in college and was the team’s fourth-round selection.

OUR PREDICTION: I struggled with this one because while I like the Eagles’ talent, I also believe they’re probably a year away from securing a playoff berth. Nevertheless, I still envision them as an 8 or 9 win team and thus, I’m going to roll the dice on the over. Wentz struggled mightily at times a year ago but also flashed immense upside. I like the additions of Jeffery and Smith to complement tight end Zach Ertz and if Nelson Agholor can thrive in the slot, then the Eagles have more than enough in the passing game. Philly’s defensive line is also one of the most underrated units in football and their safeties can mask a cornerback position that has major questions.
