NFL Odds: Odell Beckham could miss Week 1, Giants dogs vs. Cowboys 8/23/17

Beckham could miss Week 1

Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could miss Week 1 of the NFL season after suffering an ankle injury on Monday night.

A source told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan that it’s “not out of the question” that Beckham “could miss a week or two of the regular season” after suffering an ankle injury on Monday night in Cleveland. Beckham took a helmet to his knee/ankle against the Browns, walked off the field and then went down to a knee in the tunnel. He had an X-ray on Tuesday that came back negative, but the injury looked scary initially.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Giants are a 3.5-point underdog versus the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday, September 10. That is both team’s season-opener. New York actually opened as a 5.5-point underdog but the line was bet down to 3.5 when Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for the first six games of the season. The total for that NFC East matchup is sitting at 47.5 points.

If Beckham is out, the Giants could have a difficult time beating the Cowboys, even though they won in Dallas in Week 1 in 2016 and even though the ‘Boys will be without Elliott. New York did acquire Brandon Marshall in free agency but Eli Manning is coming off a poor 2016 campaign and the team did next to nothing to improve its offensive line. The defense will once again be stellar, but the offense will run through Beckham without a sound running game to lean on.
