Will the Broncos re-sign Decker?
DENVER, CO (The Spread) – Will free agent Eric Decker re-sign with the Broncos this offseason?
Decker told NFL.com that while he’d “love” to sign a new deal to stay in Denver, he admits that the situation is out of his control.
“You build relationships, but you know it’s not going to be the same next year,” Decker said. “Obviously for me, I would love to come back. … I would love to play here. Unfortunately it’s something that isn’t always in my control.”
The 26-year-old Decker caught 87 passes for 1,288 yards with 11 touchdowns last season as Denver reached the Super Bowl. But even if the Broncos wanted to re-up with the former Minnesota product, the reality is that they may not have the cap space with both Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas entering contract years. The window for the Broncos to win a Super Bowl could be closing with Peyton Manning aging, and Decker is likely to receive a big pay day this offseason.
In related news, the Broncos’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIX next year have dropped from 8/1 to 10/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv. It’s unclear why this shift happened, although oddsmakers might be adjusting Denver’s odds with Decker and Knowshon Moreno likely to leave via free agency. Manning also has an exam coming up in March to determine how his surgically repaired neck is holding up. If Manning retires, bettors will see Denver’s odds drop a hell of a lot more than by two.
