Tampa Bay Bucs Game Notes
Bucs coach Bruce Arians said WR Antonio Brown will be “ready to go” for Week 9 against the Saints. Arians adds that Brown “looks fantastic” and is already participating in meetings and strength work. The Bucs are considered one of the top teams in the NFL through seven weeks of the season, but adding a volatile ingredient like Brown to a currently well-designed recipe will either hurt the final product or act as the missing piece, helping it reach its best form. Chris Godwin has been ruled out for Week 8 with a broken finger, so if his Week 9 status is in doubt Brown could be instantly in line for a significant role.
New York Giants Game Notes
Daniel Jones completed 20-of-30 passes for 187 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Giants’ 22-21, Week 7 loss to the Eagles, adding four carries for 92 additional yards. Jones also lost a game-ending fumble on a drive where the Giants were facing long odds of getting into field goal range. It was a bad play — Jones was oddly casual in the pocket and didn’t feel the pressure — but the game would have been close to over had Evan Engram not committed a horrifying drop on 3rd-and-7 with 2:09 remaining. The G-Men would have been close to being able to run out the clock. Engram was also the culprit on Jones’ interception, allowing the ball to clang off his hands. Jones butchered his best play of the night, breaking free for a would-be 88-yard touchdown run on a read option in the third quarter only to face plant at the eight-yard line. Thankfully for the Giants, they were able to score four plays later. Jones now has three touchdowns over his past two games after going four weeks without a score, but he still isn’t making enough plays for his moribund team. The Bucs are a highly concerning Week 8 matchup.
Bucs vs. Giants Spread Prediction
I know this is a lot of points but I don’t trust the Giants, even as a home dog on Monday night. They’re 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 games as a home dog, are 6-20-1 at the betting window in their last 27 home games and are 7-20-1 against the number in their last 28 games coming off an ATS win. On the other side, the Bucs are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games, are 5-1 against the number in their last six games as a road favorite and are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games versus an opponent with a losing home record. In this series, the road team mis also 6-0-1 at the betting window in the last seven meetings between these two teams.
