Lions rule out RB Montgomery
Lions ruled out RB David Montgomery (knee) for Week 17 against the 49ers. No surprise here after Montgomery is reportedly attempting to rehab his knee and return at some point in the playoffs. The Lions control their own destiny for the top playoff seed and the only bye out of the NFC, but will need to keep stringing together wins with the Vikings nipping at their heels.
Niners will have RB Guerendo for MNF
49ers RB Isaac Guerendo (foot/hamstring) was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 17 against the Lions. Guerendo will return from a one-game absence and should immediately reclaim a starting role in one of fantasy’s most valuable backfields. Even with a matchup on deck against a Lions team ceding just 16.9 fantasy points per game to opposing backfields, Guerendo’s expected volume should be enough to serve as a back-end RB2 for championship week.

Lions vs. 49ers Prediction:
The 49ers have been eliminated from postseason contention but Kyle Shanahan’s offense can still move the ball and the Lions still have major defensive problems due to injuries. The Niners’ offense has had issues due to injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle throughout the season. Brock Purdy also missed a game in Green Bay back in November, so it’s just been a lost year for Shanahan’s team.
That said, we’re not too far removed from the 49ers hanging 38 points on another NFC North team in the Bears. That Week 14 matchup was also at Levi’s Stadium and while the Lions and Bears are night and day as far as direction of the franchise, the fact remains that Detroit still has major defensive issues. The Lions allowed 48 points to the Bills two weeks ago and surrendered 31 points to the Packers in Week 14. They also allowed 20 and 17 points, respectively, to a Bears team that can’t protect the quarterback.
If this game turns into a shootout tonight, I don’t think 24 points is out of reach for the Niners.
Lions vs. 49ers NFL Prediction: 49ers over 23.5 Points (-116)
