Jags start with road win
The Jaguars opened the season at New York, picking up a 20-15 win over the Giants. Jacksonville was a 2.5-point favorite in the win and the Jags went under the total in the win. The Jaguars have covered the spread in four straight games.
Jacksonville held the Giants to just 324 total yards in the win while forcing a pair of turnovers as well. Offensively, Jacksonville didn’t look great. The Jags had just 305 yards of total offense. Running back Leonard Fournette missed most of the game with a hamstring injury, but is expected to play this afternoon. Blake Bortles threw for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 18 of 33 passing.
Pats still the team to beat
The Patriots continued their winning ways in Week 1 of the season, picking up a 27-20 win at home over the Texans. They covered as a 6-point favorite while going under the high 49.5-point total. The Patriots have covered the spread in four of their last five games.
New England was able to contain the Houston offense and hold the Texans to just 325 total yards and 158 passing yards. The Pats offense put up 389 yards, but had three turnovers. Tom Brady was 26 of 39 passing for 277 yards and three touchdowns while Rob Gronkowski caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Leading rusher Rex Burkhead had 64 yards before leaving the game with a concussion. He is questionable to play today.
NFL Betting Trends
Jacksonville
The Jaguars are just 1-10 against the spread in their last 11 Week 2 games but 8-3 ATS in their last 11 conference games.
New England
The Patriots have covered the spread in 10 of their last 11 games on grass and in 14 of their last 17 road games.
Prediction:
The Patriots are the Patriots for a reason and Tom Brady is a big part of that. In a game that is essentially a pick em, I will trust Brady and the Pats over Bortles and the Jaguars. Fournette won’t be 100 percent if he does play and Brady has carved up better defenses than the Jags in his career. Jacksonville didn’t look like a team ready to beat New England last week.
NFL Prediction: New England Patriots -1
