Two division rivals face off for a trip to the Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon when the Washington Commanders head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. Washington is coming off of a dominant victory in the second round of the playoffs. Philadelphia survived at home in their playoff game last week. They are currently 6 point home favorites with this Commanders vs. Eagles matchup set to kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders traveled to Tampa Bay to take down the Bucs 23-20 in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Last week they made the trip to Detroit and dominated the Lions 45-31. Jayden Daniels completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 51 yards. Brian Robinson was the lead rusher with 77 yards and two touchdowns. Dyami Brown finished with 98 receiving yards and Terry McLaurin wasn’t far behind with 87 yards and a touchdown. The defense finished with 4 total interceptions along with a fumble recovery. Defensive tackle Daron Payne has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with injury.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles hosted the LA Rams last week and won 28-22 in the snow. Jalen Hurts kicked off the scoring with a 44 yard run for a touchdown. He finished with 77 rush yards. The pass game continues to be a mystery as Hurts completed 15 of 20 passes for just 128 yards. DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown combined for just 35 yards. The Eagles continue to live and die by the rushing attack led by Saquon Barkley. Saquon rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns in this matchup. The defense had two fumble recoveries on 5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Jalen Hurts was also sacked 7 times. He injured his leg on one of the sacks. He currently doesn’t have an injury designation but is expected to wear a knee brace on Sunday.

Commanders vs. Eagles Prediction:
These teams played twice this season, with the Eagles winning their home game 26-18, and the Commanders winning their home game 36-33 (Jalen Hurts out in the first quarter). I like the Eagles to win and cover the spread in this matchup. Washington is hot right now and the offense is clicking, but the Eagles have the defense that can stop them. In the first game between these two teams, the Eagles shut down Jayden Daniels, allowing just 191 pass yards (with 43 of those yards coming on the final drive of the game) and picking him off once. He also only rushed for 18 yards. In the second game of the season, the Commanders did better, scoring 36 points, but the Eagles still had 2 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries in the game. Philadelphia has the strongest pass defense in the NFL, allowing just 5.6 yards per pass attempt. They also rank top in the league in opponent yards allowed per game.
On the other side, the Eagles’ very strong rush attack will be going up against the 30th ranked defense in opponent yards per rush attempt, with the Commanders allowing 4.9 yards per carry. Jalen Hurts is banged up with the leg injury but was a full participant in practice on Thursday and Friday. With the Commanders most likely crashing on Saquon to slow down the run, the pass game should open up. Hurts is capable of throwing the ball. We haven’t seen it much in recent weeks but it’s time to act like an NFL quarterback and complete some passes down field. Give me the Eagles to make it to the Super Bowl and cover on Sunday.
