49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Nick Mullens would remain the team’s starting quarterback. Shanny said Mullens was “firmly” the Niners’ starter headed into Week 10. Horrifically ineffective for three quarters Thursday night against the Packers, Mullens ended up with a respectable 291 yards and a touchdown thanks to some good old garbage time production. Mullens’ up-and-down play has persisted throughout his starts and relief appearances this year, and he should be treated as a fringe option in superflex leagues for the rest of the season.

Drew Brees completed 26-of-32 passes for 222 yards and four touchdowns in the Saints’ Week 9 win over the Bucs. The Saints got out to an early lead, with Brees throwing first-half touchdown passes to Emmanuel Sanders, Tre’Quan Smith, and Adam Trautman. Brees managed the game after that, with his lone second-half score going to TE Josh Hill. Brees has been hot over the last three weeks, throwing for 772 yards with no turnovers. He’s on pace for 4,240 yards with a 34:6 TD/INT ratio through the first eight games.
