49ers could overwhelm Raiders
OAKLAND, CA (The Spread) – The San Francisco 49ers need to get back on track to keep their playoff hopes alive when they face the Oakland Raiders this Sunday at 4:25PM ET on FOX.
San Francisco is coming off a 19-3 loss on Thanksgiving to the Seahawks in a game they were dominated from the start. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak, but the 49ers are just 3-3 in their last 6. San Francisco is now 7-5 on the season, 4-2 on the road and 6-6 against the spread. They are two games behind Arizona for first in the NFC West and currently on the outside of the wild card picture.
Oakland got its first win of the season two weeks ago, beating Kansas City 24-20. However, the Raiders followed that up with arguably the worst performance by a team this season in a 52-0 loss at St. Louis last week. Oakland is now 1-11 on the year, 1-5 at home and 6-6 against the spread.
It’s not too surprising to see San Francisco as a sizable favorite, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv have given the 49ers odds of -8 points at Oakland on Sunday. The over/under total for the game has been set at 40.5 points (View Matchup). The 49ers have won three straight meetings with Oakland, but the two have split the spread in their last eight meetings.
The San Francisco defense shouldn’t have much trouble with Oakland’s offense. The 49ers are giving up just 306.7 yards per game this season, while the Raiders are amassing under 280 yards per contest. On the other side of the ball, San Francisco will look to utilize its running game, which posts 114.8 yards per game. It is facing one of the league’s worst rushing defenses, as Oakland allows 130.5 yards per game on the ground. Frank Gore has a team-high 712 rushing yards for San Francisco this year while quarterback Colin Kaepernick has added 353 yards.
