Packers vs. Lions Free Pick
DETROIT, MI (The Spread) – A pair of 1-1 rivals from the NFC North will square off today in Motown when the Lions host the Packers at 1:00PM ET.
GREEN BAY: The Packers erased a 21-3 deficit to beat the Jets 31-24 last week at Lambeau Field. Aaron Rodgers completed 25-of-42 passes for 346 yards with three touchdowns while receiver Jordy Nelson went off for nine catches and 209 yards with one touchdown. Green Bay’s defense still has plenty of issues to iron out heading into today’s matchup but the Pack successfully avoided falling to 0-2 on the year with the win. They’ve now failed to cover the spread back-to-back weeks, however. (Although that depends on whether or not you had the Packers at -7 versus the Jets last week.)
DETROIT: The Lions struggled offensively last Sunday in a 24-7 loss as a 1-point road underdog in Carolina. Matthew Stafford completed 27-of-48 passes for 291 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Calvin Johnson caught 6-of-13 targets for 83 yards in the loss. But the Lions couldn’t generate much push in the running game and was held to just 70 yards on 18 carries as the Panthers’ front seven dominated yet another opponent. Detroit is now 1-1 straight up and 1-1 against the spread.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Lions are 2.5-point favorites over the Packers while the total is currently sitting at 52 points. Green Bay opened as 1-point favorites before the line swung in favor of Detroit, while the total opened at 52 and has stayed at that number.
NFL FREE PICK: Take Green Bay.
