Raiders vs. Jets Free Pick
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – The Derek Carr era begins today in New Jersey when the Raiders visit the Jets at 1:00PM ET. Will Oakland cover as a road dog?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Jets are 5.5-point home favorites over the Raiders, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 39.5 points. New York opened as 4.5-point home favorites before the line was bet up, while the total opened at 39.5 and that’s where it has stayed.
The Raiders are in for another long year unless rookie signal-caller Derek Carr lights up the regular season like he did in preseason. He doesn’t have a ton of weapons around him but the team hopes that the additions of Maurice Jones-Drew and James Jones will help lift the burden a little. The defense could also have trouble this season despite adding a dynamic rookie in Khalil Mack.
Geno Smith heads into his second full year as the starter in New York and has more weapons around him than he did a season ago. Eric Decker was added to a receiving corps that still is thin on depth, but at least he gives Smith a top-end receiver capable of providing big plays. The Jets will still be lead by their defense, although injuries have already ravaged the secondary.
NFL FREE PICK: Take the under. According to latest NFL trends, the under is 4-1 in the Jets’ last five games versus AFC opponents, 4-1 in the Raiders’ last five games in September and 11-5-1 in Oakland’s last 17 games versus AFC opponents. With a rookie starting under center for the Raiders and a total lack of explosive players on both sidelines, the combined score should fall well under the total in East Rutherford today.
2014 NFL WEEK 1 FREE PICK: RAIDERS/JETS UNDER 39.5
