Redskins vs. Texans Free Pick
HOUSTON, TX (The Spread) – After a shaky preseason performance, will RGIII and the Redskins start 2014 off on the right foot when they visit the Texans at 1:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Texans are 3-point home favorites over the Redskins, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 45.5 points. Houston opened as 1.5-point favorites but the line has been bet up, while the total opened at 46.5 before being bet down.
Robert Griffin III struggled all preseason but both he and new head coach Jay Gruden believe that he can put his issues behind him now that the games will start counting. After adding DeSean Jackson to a group that also features Pierre Garcon, Alfred Morris and Jordan Reed, there’s certainly enough talent around RGIII, but he has to show that he can be durable and healthy. The defense has plenty of question marks, although Jason Hatcher was added to beef up a front seven that also includes stout pass-rushers Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan.
The Texans brought in a new coaching staff under Bill O’Brien and a new quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick. While the offense could remain a work in progress, the defense features the likes of J.J. Watt, Brian Cushing and No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. If Houston can run the ball effectively with Arian Foster and play good defense, their in store for a massive rebound season after finishing with the league’s worst record a year ago.
NFL FREE PICK: Take the over. According to latest NFL trends, the over is 4-1 in the Redskins’ last five games in Week 1 and 6-2 in their last eight games in September. The over is also 5-1 in the Texans’ last six games in September and 6-2 in their last eight home games.
