NFL Week 16 Opening Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The opening point spreads and over/under totals have been posted for Week 16 in the NFL, so let’s break down a couple of the key matchups for this week.
Perhaps the biggest matchup this weekend in the NFL is a rematch of a Week 14 contest that saw the Saints blowout the Panthers as a 3-point home favorite. Now Carolina (10-4) will look to return the favor when it hosts New Orleans (10-4) in a battle for first place in the NFC South. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Panthers are a 3-point home favorite after they took care of business against the Jets in Week 15. The Saints will be looking to bounce back from their ugly 27-16 loss to the Rams, who dominated as a 6.5-point home underdog.
AFC West rivals also square off in Seattle on Sunday afternoon when the Seahawks host the Cardinals at 4:05PM ET. At 12-2, Seattle is in line to secure home field advantage in the NFC and at 9-5, Arizona is still alive for a wild card berth. Despite so much being at stake for both teams, oddsmakers have installed the Seahawks as 10-point favorites, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 45 points.
On Sunday afternoon the Ravens will also host the Patriots at 4:25PM ET in a matchup of AFC playoff hopefuls. Questions surround the Patriots, who lost Rob Gronkowski two weeks ago and whose defense hasn’t played well since losing key defenders Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo. Tom Brady and Co. couldn’t secure yet another last-second victory last week in Miami, as the Pats lost to the Dolphins in a crucial AFC East showdown. Oddsmakers have installed the Ravens as 1.5-point favorites for Sunday’s matchup.
On Monday night the 49ers will look to take another step closer to securing a wild card berth in the NFC when they host the Falcons. Both teams are coming off wins in Week 15, although Atlanta was aided by Washington’s decision to go for two in the final seconds. The Redskins didn’t convert on the play and the Falcons won 27-26 as a 5.5-point favorite. Oddsmakers have installed San Francisco as an 11.5-point home favorite for Monday night’s matchup with Atlanta, which is a rematch of the 2012 NFC title game.
