Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds
(The Spread) – The odds have been updated for the 2013 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and Packers running back Eddie Lacy is the current favorite.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Lacy is currently 5/1 to win the 2013 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Lacy’s odds improved when the Packers placed DuJuan Harris on injured reserve with a knee injury, effectively ending his season. Lacy will now open the season as Green Bay’s clear-cut every-down back and with how he’s run thus far in preseason, there’s reason to believe that he could have an outstanding rookie season.
Broncos running back Montee Ball, meanwhile, is 11/2 to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award this year despite Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase recently stating that the team will use a committee at running back. But oddsmakers have seen what everyone else has: Ronnie Hillman can’t hold onto the football and his preseason fumble is likely to lead Ball to taking over the full-time role in Denver’s backfield.
Last week Rams’ dynamic receiver Tavon Austin was a 5/1 favorite but now he has the same Rookie of the Year odds as Ball at 11/2. The drop in odds more than likely had to do with Lacy’s upside now that Harris has been placed on IR, rather than Austin losing ROY steam. The former West Virginia wideout figures to play a key role in St. Louis’ new spread passing attack.
Continuing with the odds, Bengals running back Giovani Bernard is 7/1 to win this year’s OROY award, while DeAndre Hopkins of the Texans and EJ Manuel of the Bills are both 10/1, respectively. Geno Smith of the Jets is currently 12/1, while Cordarrelle Patterson of the Vikings is 14/1 and Aaron Dobson of the Patriots is 16/1.
