2012-13 AFC South Division Odds

(The Spread) – With two teams in full rebuilding mode, Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans have a clear shot to the AFC South title this upcoming season.

Oddsmakers have installed the Texas as -400 money line favorites while the Tennessee Titans have the next best odds at +450. The Indianapolis Colts are +1200 to win the division this season while the Jacksonville Jaguars are the current long shots at +1500.

The Texans also have the best odds to win the 2013 Super Bowl at 12/1 while the Titans are 50/1 to win the NFL championship and the Colts are 100/1. The Jaguars currently have the worst odds to win the Super Bowl this season at 200/1. (The Cleveland Browns also have 200/1 odds to win the Super Bowl.)

The Texans’ defense took a hit this offseason when defensive end Mario Williams (Bills) left via free agency. Offensive tackle Eric Winston also signed with the Chiefs and the Broncos signed Joel Dreessen, although Houston was able to keep center Chris Myers with a new deal. In the draft, the Texans selected Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus in the first round and Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey in the third.

Of course, the team that made the biggest splash in the draft is the Colts, whom selected first overall pick Andrew Luck of Stanford. They also plucked Luck’s former Stanford tight end Coby Fleener in the second and added another tight end in the third in Clemson’s Dwayne Allen. The team was able to re-sign Robert Mathis in the offseason and despite rumors, Indy did not trade or release fellow defender Dwight Freeney.

The Jaguars made a move in the first round to nab Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon and then took Clemson defensive end Andre Branch in the second. The biggest news surrounding Jacksonville this offseason is the status of Maurice Jones-Drew, who is likely to hold out during training camp as he complains about his contract.

Lastly, the Titans supplemented their receiving corps with the addition of Kendall Wright in the first round of April’s draft. They also took speedy linebacker Zach Brown of North Carolina and defensive tackle Mike Martin of Michigan. That said, Tennessee lost cornerback Cortland Finnegan (Rams) and Jason Jones (Seahawks) in free agency.
