(The Spread) – Fresh off their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, the Green Bay Packers are favored to repeat as champs according to oddsmakers. Continue reading to check out future odds for the 2012 Super Bowl.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, the Packers are 7/1 to win Super Bowl XLVI. The team with the next best odds are the New England Patriots at 8/1, while the defending AFC champion Steelers are 10/1.
Other 2010 playoff teams like the Indianapolis Colts (14/1), New Orleans Saints (14/1), Baltimore Ravens (14/1), Atlanta Falcons (16/1), New York Jets (16/1), Philadelphia Eagles (16/1) and Chicago Bears (22/1) all have comparable odds to each other.
What’s interesting is that odds makers believe that some non-playoff teams from a year ago will bounce back. (Or they believe that the public believes that those teams will bounce back.) The Dallas Cowboys are 16/1, while the San Diego Chargers are 12/1. Interestingly, the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the AFC West last year and hosted a playoff game, have opened as 35/1 long shots to win next year’s Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks, who won the NFC West, are 85/1 to win after becoming the first team with a losing record to make the postseason.
Some long shots to keep an eye on next year are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (35/1), St. Louis Rams (40/1) and Detroit Lions (50/1). These teams would have to stay healthy and catch a few breaks throughout the season, but thanks to free agency, teams can turn around their misfortunes quickly. The Bucs and Rams weren’t that far off from making the playoffs this year anyway, so one good offseason could catapult them into the postseason next year.
