Tennessee Titans Season Odds
(The Spread) – The Tennessee Titans will have a new look in 2011 but can they be competitive in an ultra-tough AFC?
Out is Jeff Fisher and in is Mike Munchak as the Titans’ new head coach. Also gone is former third overall draft pick Vince Young, replaced at quarterback by free agent Matt Hasselbeck, who is currently holding the starting spot until 2011 first rounder Jake Locker is ready to take over the reins. Tennessee also added free agents Barrett Ruud (Bucs), Shaun Smith (Chiefs), Frank Walker (Vikings, Jordan Babineaux (Seahawks), Daniel Graham (Broncos) and Anthony Smith (Packers).
The offense will still center around running back Chris Johnson, assuming of course that he ends his holdout in time for the regular season. He insists the Titans have yet to offer him a new contract since the lockout ended and refuses to show up to training camp until he receives more money. This puts the already talent-strapped Titans in a bind, and GM Mike Reinfeldt must make a decision soon about whether or not to pony up to keep the highly productive 25-year-old back.

Of course, even with Johnson the Titans are considered long shots to win in 2011. Oddsmakers currently list them as 75/1 long shots to win the 2012 Super Bowl and 35/1 to win their conference. They also have long odds to win the AFC South Division at +600 and have an over/under win total of just 6.5 games.
Assuming Hasselbeck’s back doesn’t start acting up again and Johnson eventually reports to camp, the Titans might be slightly improved with more consistency. But chances are they’ll battle the Jaguars for last place in the AFC South and won’t make much noise in 2011. The AFC is just too tough again this year for a long shot like Tennessee to surprise.
